Affordable off the shoulder tops

affordable off the shoulder top, summer tops, strawberry chic blog, strawberry chic

If you frequent Instagram, then I guarantee you've seen how popular off the shoulder tops are this season - they are precious! I recently spotted this one for $24.99 and knew I would like it because it has a tie on the shoulder. I have learned that on my body type (more hourglass shape or broader shoulders, I'm talking to you!) I prefer to have a small strap across my shoulders to break up the straight across look. Also, I've realized that I don't exactly trust a top that just goes straight across, because you never know what may pop out. Don't let these straps fool you though, they have a build in knot so the tie is just for looks. I wish I could have tightened them because as you can see they would occasionally fall off my shoulder. I linked a few off the shoulder tops at the same price point below. My shoes are old cheapies from JustFab, but the pair I linked below are SO comfortable (I have them in gold) and have a similar look that you can wear in the upcoming fall season as well.

I wore this outfit over the weekend while checking out what was still available in the NSale (see what I got the first go round here!). While I was there I spotted these boots still in stock and decided I had to have them because I don't have a pair of heeled boots. I also love the color because they will pair well with black or brown because of the gray-ish/ taupe color. My package should be coming in today, so I'll try everything on again and make sure to share my styled looks on Instagram.

My purchases from the #NSale

You guys, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is the sale I've been saving my Christmas gift cards for. Yes, it's that good, because fall fashion is the best fashion. However on Thursday after three hours in the store, I wasn't able to checkout because the gift card system was down.  I ended up ordering most of what I wanted online, and I thought I would  leave my feedback on what I can from my in-store shopping so it's not a complete waste! I also ordered this tunic ($27 on sale but not anniversary) and this scarf that have been sitting in my cart forever. I tried on this years version in the sale but preferred the older style because it's longer.

Here are a few iPhone pictures from my in-store shopping.
I wish this scarf was a little bit longer, but it's still enough to style it wrapped around your neck.
I love this bag! It's definitely a popular item from the sale (marked down $80) and it's currently on back order until 8/4.
I didn't find the correct size for this flannel so I can't speak on fit, but I love it as a layering piece under sweaters. I couldn't find this sweater online anywhere :( If you know what it is let me know!
The coziest cashmere sweater. The fit is oversized but I like it that way, so size up/down depending on how you want it to fit! These Paige jeans are very stretchy so I would recommend sizing down. I'm usually a 28 and I'm wearing a 27 in this picture.

I skipped out on this skirt because I can't wear it to work, but if you can it's a great length and very figure flattering (I like that it stretches to accommodate the booty). I'm wearing a size 2 and it's hard to see the lace detail in this photo. I paired it with this top, but it will go with almost anything in your closet!

Some items are showing up as sold out, but every year Nordstrom will restock them periodically and save stock for when the sale goes live to the public, so don't worry!
What are your favorite items from the #NSale?

#JourneytoJohn: DIY Engagement Photos

Today I'm sharing our DIY engagement photos we took back in Savannah during my graduation weekend. After living there for two years and frequently visiting my family there growing up, Savannah will always have a place in my heart. With its' moss covered trees, historic homes, and charming squares Savannah is easily one of my favorite cities. I knew I wanted to take advantage while Tim was in town for my graduation to take some photos together at some of our favorite spots. After getting a few (not so affordable) quotes and some scheduling difficulties, the only option was to have my Mom snap some photos for us.
Think about the general tone you want for your pictures, whether you want to go more casual or more glam. We went for a look that would compliment our typical date night attire and coordinated in the same color family. Tims' outfit is easily a favorite of mine and he also wore it for out actual proposal in Arizona (read it here!). My attire on the other hand is not what I originally pictured to be honest. Shopping in Savannah is definitely more challenging than in Atlanta, so I had to settle for this dress I found on sale that didn't quite fit me right (aka it was too tight in the booty.. #squatlife). My clutch and shoes on the other hand potentially made up for it.
If you're going the DIY route, definitely take the time to set up the camera setting how you want (looking at these we should have lowered the exposure) and set aside more time than you may expect. We didn't exactly have a lot of time because we did these before a dinner reservation. If we weren't on a time constraint, I would have made some minor adjustments to the camera settings, but I still love these nevertheless!

A few other things to keep in mind. Since you're not hiring a professional, you'll be responsible for the location scouting and editing. Try to consider places that are meaningful to you as a couple to get started. The first location we picked is right by our favorite date night spot - Vic's on the River. If you're taking photos in a public setting, plan on getting creative/be patient to avoid having people in your background. As for editing, I didn't do too much with these except for cropping, sharpening, and changing one to black and white. I'm by no means a photographer, but Tim and I have learned the most important thing when it comes to photography is lighting. Instead of standing directly in the sun, find a place that has shade to avoid shadows under your eyes (and squinting!).
Tim actually surprised me considering it was his first time in front of the camera..he is always the man behind the camera! I think I was more awkward than him, but I always laugh at myself when we take photos together. I would highly recommend looking at engagement photos prior to yours and make a list of poses on your phone the two of you can use throughout the shoot. I learned this after the fact,  but we learned it's important to do before the wedding!

My dress was on sale at Belt and I can't find it anywhere (it's by Lush), so I linked similar options below!

What's in my Gym Bag

gym bag, ban.do, what's in my bag, what to pack for the gym, cute gym bags, affordable gym bag
Today I'm sharing what I typically carry in my gym bag in case you're new to a gym and want to be prepared! This affordable gym bag is a great size to keep all that I need in it, without leaving too much room for me to carry the kitchen sink. It's not structured, so if that will bother you then I also love this one on sale! My favorite protein bar is this one in vanilla creme. I typically eat this in the morning after coffee, but I like to keep one in my bag in case I didn't eat enough to get me through my workout.

My favorite gym accessory are these wireless headphones. You don't know the struggle of regular headphones until you're trying to do burpees with your phone tucked into your sports bra. With wireless headphones, I can sit my phone in my bag and keep on keeping on without getting tangled up in a cord. If you're still not sure about investing in wireless headphones, I recommend the Flip Belt to store your phone in instead of an arm band. Personally I think arm bands are uncomfortable, especially when you're working out your arms #swole. I still use the flip belt when I go for a run because it stores my phone and keys on me. I could be a lot better about foam rolling, but I usually just do it during my warm up for leg day.

I recently got this canteen from Swoozies and I've been loving it! It's has definitely helped me drink more water throughout the day because it keeps your drink cold for hours. Inside a makeup pouch I keep extra bobby pins and hair ties because it's the worst when your hair tie breaks on you mid-workout or you forget one! I also keep a elastic headband in case my baby hairs start acting up. Along with hand sanitizer, it's always a good idea to bring along deodorant and face wipes to freshen up afterward for the days you aren't going straight home. Some other items not pictured that I like to bring with me to the gym include a small hand towel and a heart rate monitor.

Thanks for reading! Is there anything I'm missing in my gym bag?? Let me know in the comments below.

Hello.. it's me

I can't believe it's been since April since my last post! What's been going on since then you ask? So I'm officially a doctor and I'm done with school for-ev..er! Next on the list is passing my boards next week..prayers appreciated, friends! Graduation weekend in Savannah was such a special time with my classmates, family, and fiancĂ©. I wanted to share some photos with y'all and reflect back on the weekend before moving forward with new goodness.

We took class photos in Forsyth and framed the top one to gift our faculty. Can't say you can see our faces well, but the background looks pretty.
Meet the parents. We only took a few photos after graduation because it was warm in that gown and we were all hungry. Also, isn't my Mom's outfit totes adorbs? We're luckily the same size in clothes and shoes, so she borrowed my J. Crew skirt and you can shop her shoes here
My "little" 16 year old brother. I swear he's not THAT pale in real life.
Mr. Fiance.
For lunch my cousin (and bridesmaid!) and aunt joined us at one of my favorite brunch spots in Savannah - Soho Cafe. I recommend the grilled cheese (+bacon) and tomato soup if you go!
Between studying for the boards, finding a job, and wedding planning...I've been a little stressed. The reason I started blogging two and a half years ago was for a relief from it all. I'm looking forward to getting back to it! I'm planning to bring back weekly workouts and start sharing wedding sneak peeks, along with fashion and beauty posts.

I'd love to know if there is anything you want to see here on SCxo?
