Workout Wednesday

I just said last week that I over did it on legs a bit, because they are my my personal favorite to focus on... so this Workout Wednesday is dedicated to the leg workout I will hopefully complete after class. I have been sore from flag football since Sunday, so we'll see how it goes!

Warmup: 1 mile run

Workout:
15 In and Out squats holding dumbbell weight
8-10 Bulgarian split squats (each leg) holding a barbell weight
15 leg raises or abdominal exercise of choice
20 walking lunges
20 Calf raises
10 deadlifts
30-60 second Plank
Rest and repeat 3 times (4 if you're a boss- I'm probably not one)

The weekend of dresses


My weekend was spent avoiding school work, which I will probably regret later this week when my three exams come around, but ohhhh well! It was a fun, but pretty exhausting weekend (I'm getting too old for ate nights downtown). Here's a quick review of what I was up to this weekend.

Thursday night I went to the inaugural PT Pub night at The World of Beer, which is a great way to meet other therapist in the area and network. It's a national gathering physical therapist do monthly, so we decided to bring it to Savannah. Saturday afternoon, I went to my cousins bridal shower, and it's always great to get to hang out with her and her friends. We're pretty close for cousins, even if we go a long time between seeing each other. Her wedding is coming up in March, and I canNOT wait. Saturday night was a doozie (I might have been up until 4am, AH) hanging out with classmates downtown. Sunday as I write this I should probably be setting up an ice bath, because I played in three not so flag- football games. We are the two-time intramural champions (I know, big deal right).

MANI MONDAY


I always have the hardest time painting my own nails the perfect nude-pink color, it always looks streaky and either too sheer or too opaque. I prefer to get a gel manicure when I can, but I don't like the breakdown it causes on my nails, as well as the price! I finally found the solution to get that gel like manicure (ya'll know = bubbly/ hardened/ extra shiny) at home, so I thought I would share my tips!



To achieve the look, I found that layering between the top coat and color works best. I use the Sephora Formula X clear coat (which is a "gel" formula without the light.. shop for it HERE). I haven't tried this technique with a regular clear coat, so I can't say how that works. Anyways, here's what I do...

Typical @ Home manicure stuff:
  1. Wash hands in warm water to help soften the cuticles
  2. Even, smooth, buff, shine nails. You can find these in almost any nail section of a drugstore
  3. Push back cuticles
  4. Remove excess with a nail trimmer
  5. Apply cuticle cream. I use this one and I'm pretty sure it will last my lifetime 
  6. Sometimes I apply a hand cream before, and in that case you want to use Acetone remover on your nails to remove any oils and have longer lasting results. 
Now here is where the magic happens: I found waiting a minute before each coat gives better results.
  1. Two coats of Essie Ballet Slippers (any color works!)
  2. One top coat of Sephora Formula X (I'd suggest a gel type top coat- not one requiring a light)
  3. One coat Essie Ballet Slippers
  4. One Sephora Formula X top coat

Work It Wednesday (but maybe not today)


Sometimes, you don't workout for a little while (for me it's usually when exams crash down on me) then when you get back into your routine… you over do it. That would be my current situation. I'm the type of person who puts my mind towards something, and I go at it 1,000% (yep… a lot), until I achieve it. That can be a good thing don't get me wrong…but when it comes to getting into a workout routine it's important to gradually get back into it (or just start slowly if it's your first time), so you don't get so sore it keeps you from doing what you really want to do. You can over-do it by using too much weight (I used the same weight I was using before I stopped for a few weeks), or by working out everyday while you're motivated.

Long story short  This leads me to what I intended this post to be about… rest and recovery. When you workout, you're actually breaking down your muscles; therefore, if you're over training/aka not resting, you will plateau and will stop seeing results. It's during rest and recovery when your body will actually re-build and develop the gains you have been working towards.  It's important to listen to your body, and if you think it needs rest.. rest! I recommend 2 nonconsecutive rest days per week.

Now they don't have to be complete rest (unless you think you need it). You can still be productive by doing a low-intensity yoga workout, a (15-20 min) stretch routine, and roll out your muscles -I usually try to stretch and roll before bed on most days of the week. If you're not familiar with a rolling workout routine, check out this video from the Tone it Up girls and here is their stretching routine to give you some ideas if you need some! Also, try (VERY HARD) to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep, and drink an extra glass of water (or two) on these rest days to further help your body recover.

Weekend Roundup


Wow what a week it has been! I was back home in Atlanta for a week long clinical in an orthopedic setting. It ended up being a lot shorter than expected with the ice/snow storm, but I'm not complaining… I got some sweet boogie boarding on frozen water sledding in, and it was a week "out of class".

Friday (aka Valentines Day) was of course spent with Tim, and he made me feel as special as always...surprising me with a dress that I can't wait to wear when it warms up. It's pink with anchors and perfect! I hope everyone had a good holiday with their loved ones.

Saturday, I literally shopped till I dropped.. going to 4 malls total. When I go home, I always love to visit the big malls that Savannah just doesn't have, so I had to squeeze in a week long stay of shopping into one day ;) On the way home I stopped by my moms art gallery to check out the Dr. Seuss hat collection...16 galleries throughout the US are exhibiting his one of a kind hat collection, including the original "Cat in the Hat" hat. It was a great collection! Saturday night I celebrated a friends birthday with dancing all night long, and my feet are still reminding me of that today... ouch. Oh and sequin pants happened.. They're from a boutique in downtown Woodstock called Fashion Cupcake. I highly recommend stopping by there if you're in the area or traveling there for the outlet shops! You can shop online… HERE!

Wear Your Heart On Your Nails


Currently I am iced in up in Atlanta, and with Valentine Day just 2 days away (and because mine are in desperate need of a fix up after a week of exams) I am using my time to search Pinterest for some nail art inspiration.
